The Atari Asteroids Deluxe plug and play ROM replacement daughterboard and version 1/3 multigame (ASTDELUXE-DUAL-DB)
What is it
The ASTDELUXE-DUAL-DB is an easy to use plug and play ROM replacement to be installed on original Atari Asteroids Deluxe game boards. It allows you to play either version of Asteroids Deluxe (v1 or v3) Version 3 is the version most people are used to , version 1 was the original asteroids deluxe code that was released is a VERY hard version so hard that Atari altered to code to make it easier to casual arcade players. However v1 is ALOT of fun for experienced players. You can quickly switch between the versions by wiring a switch to your coin door and flipping the switch switch (switch not included). This kit also make the system more reliable bypassing the older potentially corroding ROMS sockets and making the 4 main game code ROMS un-necessary.
Why
I created this kit as I work on a lot of early 80s arcade games, and I got tired of dealing with finding and programing 2716 ROMS. I also wanted to be able to easily switch between the two game versions.
How does it work?
It's very easy, follow these steps in ORDER:
Remove the old ROMS
Remove your old CPU
Plug your old CPU into the 6502 CPU socket on the ASTDELUXE-DUAL-DB board
Insert the ASTDELUXE-DUAL-DB directly into the 6502/CPU socket on the game board
Insert the included ROM @ NP2
Insert the included ROMS sub board @ R2
Connect a physical switch to the CPU daughter board switch points (optional)
Play your game!
What boards and games does it support
This board will work with any working version of the Atari ASTEROIDS DELUXE game board. Your board set must already be fully working.
